Week 14

 Hello, Blog!

This is my last week of blogging it seems.

This past week, I finished up everything for my collection!! I will be photographing it tomorrow and getting that all turned in!

I was also able to get EVERYTHING else for both sustainability, and Couture completed and turned in...

That means three down and one to go!

Time to finish up Garments for Action and Function. I don't have too much more to go. I just have to sew the sleeves to the body of my Bodysuit for my visibility project, and finish my illustration for mobility! Then wow, I am done!

For the rest of my blog posts, I will be posting some of my work on the Escape site, so if you want to see my finalized work, head there!!

Thanks for reading,

Bella

Week 13

 Hello!

This past week was Thanksgiving... Wow we're really getting close to the end!!

For my collection, I have been working on all of the finishings! I'm SOOOO close to being done, 2 more hems and 1 zipper to do! Then I will photograph it all and turn it in!! So crazy.. I had my sister help me to take picture of some of the things that I made and got completely done, so that was pretty exciting to see my stuff on a body!

I also finished my whole Chanel look! I made my jacket and skirt obviously, and then I made a little halter top and a mask to go with it! It was so fun to make and I am happy it is done because I LOVE it, but I kind of want to start another one! I had a good time putting it together!

So by the next time I am blogging, I will hopefully be done with nearly all of my work! How exciting!!

Until then....

Week 12

Hello, blog world! It's Bella, here to update you on what I did last week.

So, big news. I finished my Chanel Jacket!!!! Yay! I put it on and felt so G.L.A.M.O.R.O.U.S. I was feeling so excited about finishing that, that I also completed the skirt, and began to work on the matching halter and top that I have planned to go with it.

As far as my collection, I did not make very many major changes. I brought them to (my last ever :() class and made plans for how I need to finish everything, so that I what I will be working on this week. I was able to get my banner printed for it though. So my plans are to finish up those finishing touches between this week and next, and to get some photographs to work with until I can safely work with a model and a photographer. I will be making masks for each look as well.

It's crazy the end is almost here, and I am feeling not super overwhelmed with my workload, so cheers to that!!

See you next week, hopefully I crank some work out!!

Week 11

 Hello!

This past week flew by!

To start this week off, I began with working on starting the sleeves for my Chanel Jacket, but I was running my grandma to her doctors appointments all monday, so I did not get as much done as I would have hoped.

Tuesday we were in class, and I was able to get some more work on my sleeves then, and when I got home! On Wednesday I had one sleeve done and ready to be set into the jacket! I did that, and decided to get some work down on my capstone!

For my capstone, I only had one garment left to get patterned and made... the jumpsuit! There were a lot of pieces for this one so I spent pretty much all the late end of Wednesday and day of Thursday doing that. I then decided I needed a break from my work table and got to work finishing up all my flats and my banner for my collection!

Friday, I was refreshed and got to sewing. I got the pants part of the jumpsuit sewn in the shell fabrics, and all the rest of it cut out. There were so many pieces, I wanted to get more of it sewn, but all the fabric cutting got me overwhelmed!

I decided to take a break from my jumpsuit and spent the rest of the weekend working on designing and making my Sustainable project. I wanted to do another zero waste and came up with a new top!

This week I plan to finish my jumpsuit, put the other sleeve into my jacket and finish that up, and work on my visibility project for GAF!

Week 10

 Hello!

This week went super fast and super slow at the same time.... I guess that's what happens when election day turns to election week??

Anyway, this week I made some pretty good progress!

Over the weekend I worked on my subtraction cutting project. It was a very interesting exprience, and I can't say that I didn't enjoy it. It was quite exciting and also scary that I was cutting holes in my fabric endnote knowing what I was going to get when I sewed them together! I finished that and was able to move on to my other projects during the week.

For my capstone, I patterned and sewed a skirt, a tank top, and a shirt!! It was a pretty good week for my capstone, you could say. AND! I only have to pattern and make one more garment and I will have them all! My plan is to start that coming into this week, and then I will take the rest of the semester to work on hems and other finishings!

For my Couture jacket project, I put the sleeve pieces together with the organza and got as far as I could before:

1. My dog chewed the plug off of my iron

2. I ran out of trim and discovered the trim I used was only available online

But, now I got a new iron and more trim, so I should be on my way with those sleeves this coming weekend!!

Week 9

 Hello!

This week went so fast, I still can't believe it is Friday!

So what happened this week? As far as my collection goes, I did a lot more work with the digital aspects, than the actual collection. I have been working on putting together my designer brief and banner, and along with that I had to update my illustrations to match my finalized (for now) collection. Well, at this point, I am definitely not changing anything else, but it is safe to say that I am happy with it right now.

I was also able to pattern a skirt and cut it out in fabric, I am hoping to sew it this weekend so that going into next week, I can work on the top to go with it. I plan on getting that top and one more top done next week to keep up with my schedule! So far, so good!

I also did some work on my subtraction cutting project where I cut the wrong thing OOPS, got more fabric and restarted, and my Chanel Jacket. (My jacket will be coming with a matching mask... silk lining as a mask lining? I guess if you're boujee enough.) And finally, I almost completed my garments for action and function project. I will be finishing that and starting my next one sometime next week!

Week 8: Working Machine

This week was a good week as far as my collection has been going. I was really able to get ahold of all of the work I have to do for all my other classes, and I had a really good schedule going.

This week I decided to tackle one of the more daunting pieces (but also one of my favorites) which is a super asymmetrical Midi Dress with a side cut out. This look me quite a while to pattern and figure out how and what everything was going to look like, but never the less, I trooped through and got it done!

After spending quite a while patterning the dress, I decided to take a break from the dress and focus on another project. I ended up transferring up my Zero Waste Pattern to paper from muslin, and then cut it out in the final fabric. I was in the zone with this project and I ended up making it completely, illustration and all! After that I felt really good about having it done and put some more work into my Chanel Jacket! I got up to the required step and I am very happy with how it is coming along.. I didn't want to stop working on it! Finally, cut out my Mobility pattern for Garments in Action and Function in the final fabric and began sewing that- with lots of frustration due to my evil serger. I swear it is out to get me.

Then it was finally Friday! I always work on Friday from 8-4 so I had to take a break from my homework for that. The whole day I was thinking about my homework, so once I got home I pulled a late Friday night working my dress (including putting in a hand picked zipper) until I basically fell asleep at the sewing machine.

Overall, it was a really productive week for me, and I am feeling really good about all the work that I was able to get done, and I'm ready to keep cranking more things out this weekend!!

Weeks 1-7: Designing, Patterning, Making, and a Desperate Need for Sparkle

Over the summer I was able to do an IS for Professional Practices. This was really great because I was able to work on coming up with a direction as well as some designs for my capstone.
My Capstone is called 'Cherry Bomb'. It is inspired by girl power, and the strength of femininity, along with some rock and roll ties- the name Cherry Bomb came from a Runaways song (an all girl rock band from the 70's (before Joan Jett was with the Blackhearts)). Overall I really just wanted to create a collection that was fun, exciting, girly, edgy, and completely me, mainly I wanted to make things that make people smile, especially during this crazy year we are experiencing.

The first couple of weeks, I spent gathering my fabrics, and working on patterning my first couple of pieces. I was able to pattern and complete my first dress, within the first two weeks. I then took a little break from my Capstone for a couple days and worked on designing and creating my thermal jacket for Garments for Action and Function.

After completing my jacket, I began creating a top from my collection. I really didn't like the top after creating it, scrapped it and went back to redesign. I had a realization that I needed a little sparkle... I am in face a glitter person. So I (in a panic) fled to the fabric store looking for something to add a little shimmer to my collection.

In the end I made a new top and was able to redesign to incorporate the sparkle I so needed...

Then once happy with my new top, I patterned and designed my favorite pants I designed, I paired them with the top and one look was complete (except for hems, I'm planning on doing the hand sewing at the end)

I was sidetracked once again, working on my Post Consumer Goods project and my Chanel jacket, so I spent a few days working on those, and then designed and ordered fabrics for my Mobility and Visibility projects for Garments for Action and Function.

Finally, I patterned and made a super ruffled skirt, and top for my capstone, I decided on changing the top, and redesigned to make a bodysuit, but I am feeling more on track now..

And, that's pretty much where I'm at now!

So, until next week!
