Avery Compton - Week 14

This week was Week 14, and also, our third ensembles were due earlier in the week. To finish up my ensemble, over the weekend, I constructed the jacket and pants, after securing the beaded pieces to the surface of the pants and bodice pieces. Then, I finished off the details and turned them in, along with our designer briefs! Here are some photos to show how the third ensemble was constructed, as well as how it turned out:

Avery Compton - Week 13

Week 13 of this process was the week of Nov. 19-25th, and during this week, I was finishing up the hand beading. I would've loved to do so much more beading, but the process takes forever and I could be beading until next year if I was allowed for this ensemble. After finishing the beading, I cut out the appliqué pieces and used a spray fixative to place the pieces where I wanted on each fabric piece. I then stitched them down with an invisible thread to secure them.

Avery Compton - Week 12

Week 12 was the week of Nov. 12-18th, and during this week, I was in the early stages of constructing my third ensemble. I was cutting out patterns, doing a lot of hand beading, constructing and fitting a mach-up of the ensemble, and putting together the bodysuit (pictured below).

Avery Compton - Week 11

Week 11 was the week of Nov. 5-11th, and during this week, I started working on my third and final ensemble that I will be creating for this collection. My third ensemble will consist of a white knit bodysuit, a blue sheer organza jacket, and blue sheer organza wide-legged pants.

Here are the illustrations and flats that I've created for this ensemble:

I have also picked out the fabrics for this ensemble, as well as made and cut out my patterns. I will be hand sewing a bunch of beaded details onto the embroidered fabric, and then I'll cut them out and sew them to the surface of the jacket and pants. Pictured below are my fabrics:

Week 15

My final looks are done! I ended up with four total ensembles for my collection. This collection turned out exactly how I had envisioned when looking at my illustrations. Overall, I ended up with four total looks but all are either reversible or can be mix and matched with other pieces in the collection.

These four designs fit really well together looking at them all side by side there is a lot of correlations even in the details that weren't planned as the cream has some undertones of pink transitioning into the pink ensemble.

This process was very exciting, and fun. Having that initial ideas and really allowing that idea to come to life was very rewarding. Even though there were some rough patches when making these garments the overall construction turned out, and the surfaced design really elevates the outfit like I had planned.

Week 14

This week I have been finishing up my last ensemble. This includes a shirt, jacket, and 2 piece set pants. This is my biggest ensemble with the most couture elements so far. It is also the ensemble that was first designed and inspired the entire idea for the rest of my collection.

Because of the importance of this ensemble I really wanted to put in my own personal touch by making my own pattern for the inside lining of the jacket. This will also serve as the logo for my entire collection.

Week 13

I have been working on summing up my collection into this banner. This banner will include my collection name which I have named Threaded Flowers due to the flower embroidery seen in some of the ensembles. It will also have my three words that describe my collection; minimalistic, delicate, and textured. As well as my flats, illustrations, a statement about my collection, color way, and a few inspiration pictures that are the most important to my collection.

Fairytale week 13

I have been working on my final touches of my last ensemble. I have loved creating and exploring different techniques and fabrics. I wanted to make a fourth ensemble but ran out of time. I’m excited to see all my ensembles out in the hall later!

BORISCHI - WEEK 13

 Week 13 - Freedom

This class was an excellent way to explore multiple areas of the fashion industry and help students understand their strengths and weaknesses to an extreme extent. I am thankful for the class and thankful it is over.

BORISCHI - WEEK 12

 Week 12 - Look 3,2,1 Done

It feels great to know the end is around the corner. Between the banner, the book, and the garment, I feel like I am ready to nap.

Week 12

This week I have been working on getting one more ensemble done from my collection. I wanted to bring in some elements of pink, to show off a little more color. I found this really amazing knit fabric that has been laying beautifully on the form.

I love the simplicity and seamlessness of this design. I plan to finish it with a hand done rolled hem.

Week 11

Moving forward I have been working on my skirt design for my jacket/pants ensemble 3. I wanted to make this design couture with hand done pleating at the top to tie in my love for pleats. I began my work at KCAD with a pleated top design and wanted to end my time at KCAD with pleating for my capstone collection. The difference of skill level and knowledge really marks as a symbolism of growth from beginning to graduation.

Week 10

I am currently working on patterns for my next few ensembles. Focusing primarily on the jacket design which had inspired this whole collection. When doing the patterns for this jacket design I decided to make it to my measurements. To make this jacket fit to me I had to alter the size 8 pattern.

Week Twelve - Ophelia

At week 12, my mockup of the bodysuit for ensemble 3 is complete, which I forgot to take a photo of (oops), and I am ready to cut my fabric. I have a nice black scuba knit that I will double-layer to get a nice clean neckline. I bought adjustable spaghetti straps to attach to the bodysuit. I tried to start draping some muslin for the outer dress, but muslin is just way too thick compared to the silk chiffon that I will be using. I'm off to the fabric store/thrift store today so that I can find a thin mockup fabric. I have also completed the final draft of my collection banner, which I will be printing on a large scale before Tuesday.

Week Eleven - Ophelia

At week 11,  I have the first draft of my collection banner. After class, I decided that I am going to make a few changes to the mood board, and put the flats on a transparent background. I've also started mocking up the bodysuit for ensemble 3.

BORISCHI - Week 11

Week 11 - Sew much to do!

I must get cracking on Look 6 and print out the banner this week! Nervous, but soon will be good to go. The semester is wrapping up, and so is this project. Here is a sneak peek at the website made in a different class for this collection!

Week 11 Fairytale

We worked on our banners this week and I think mine turned out pretty great. I also started drafting my patterns and making my protos for the last ensemble. I am hoping to make two ensembles this time but it depends on how much time I have. Hopefully by next week I will have some parts of my ensemble finished.

BORISCHI- Week 10

 Week 10 - Banner

Half the job is the presentation, and for our collections, that is centered around the banner! These will be up in the hall of the WNF building for all to see! Working and watching shows makes the work slow but can be fun.

Week 10 - Avery Compton

This week was the due date for Ensemble #2. I haven't quite tied up all the loose ends with my dress, and there is some more beaded appliqué that I would like to put on the dress, but here is how it ended up! It has a zipper closure on the right side of the dress, and I made it a size 10 so that it would fit me! I included a couple of process pictures below, as well as a picture of both ensembles so far!

Week 9 - Avery Compton

For week nine, I spent most of my free time embellishing the floral fabric that I have with beading. I have a large standing embroidery frame that I put my fabric into, then used a couching hand-sewing method to apply the beads. This process took me a long time, and I am still working on more beading so that I'll have more appliqué pieces for the dress.

Week Ten - Ophelia

At week ten the second ensemble is complete! I’m really proud of it. The bodysuit turned out really good, but I think the skirt may need a bit of work to get it to where I want it to be. I’ll need to eventually add stronger elastic to the waistband and hem the bottom. I initially planned to leave the selvage edge because I thought it looked cool, but I decided I’m going to cut part of it off and turn it up, still leaving a little bit of there white edge. The asymmetry wasn’t necessarily intentional, but I like it so I think I’m going to try to make it look a bit more angled at the bottom.
