Week 5

This week I was putting on finishing touches to my ensemble one that is now fully completed! I am really excited about how it turned out. But I do plan on going back and adding in some more details to really help this design stand out. Here are some photos of the process in finishing my garment.

Top is a corset with boning and a lace up back. Pants are two layered with knit as the base and a sheer overlay with elastic waistband. Next week I will be posting about the start of ensemble 2.

BORISCHI - Week 5

  Week 5- Beads

Beading and trying to get things done for the due date. After a tragic event requiring hand washing and leaving the dress to dry, I was short on time to add the fine details. It turned out just fine in the end.

Week 4 - Avery Compton

It is now week four of the Capstone Collection-making process, and we have been working on our Ensemble 1 prototypes. This week, I presented my prototype for the first ensemble, then figured out what I need to change, and have been making changes to my patterns.

I have also been waiting for most of my embellishment supplies to arrive in the mail. Today, I received my tambour beading hooks and also the micro-pleated organza fabric that I will be using in some areas of my ensembles. I am still waiting on a couple of things, though.

In the meantime, I will be finalizing these adjustments to my patterns, start cutting out the final pieces in fabric, and starting to apply the beading/embellishments to the surfaces of my pattern pieces.

I have also acquired my final fabrics for ensemble 1, and will continue to look for fabric for the next ensembles I will be making.

Week Four - Ophelia

At week four, my prototype is complete and I am ready to create my first ensemble. I took a trip to the fabric store today and got some fun textured black knit fabric for my pants. I decided to use this fabric instead of a Ponte knit because the Ponte that was at JoAnn did not inspire or impress me. I began cutting my final pattern and will start sewing shortly. Lots of chaos going on as I work on this ensemble while starting a new sewing job, but I am feeling motivated and confident. :)

Week 4 - Fairytale

Working on finishing up my first ensemble! Here are a bunch of process pictures.

I am almost finished with the corset belt, it just needs the grommets and I am adding some decorative chains too.

I started sewing the dress as well and getting all of my pieces together. By next week the first ensemble will be done and I will be starting ensemble two!

BORISCHI - Week 4

Week 4 - Draping the Actual Dress

Even when planning ahead of it, draping randomized cut pieces can produce something unexpected. I am excited to watch this garment as it turns out slowly. Next step fluffing the skirt and adding the top layers so I can embellish it!

Week 4

This week I have been working on my patterns for my first ensemble of the collection. I have also been turning those patterns into a mock up to see if anything needs adjusting.

My first ensemble is a corset bodice, with front princess seams and a lace up corset back. The bodice will be fully lined to create a nice finish. The pants will be made from a knit fabric, with elastic at the top. The pants will be a wide leg, with sheer fabric on top. Next week I will be posting my finished ensemble.

Week 3

This week, I finalized my collection, and we created our designer boards for each collection, which include:

- an inspiration/mood board

- illustrations of each ensemble (separate and together)

- styling board

- collection synopsis

- mission/vision statement

- customer profile

- color and fabric story

- front and back flats of each ensemble

- our 3 words and collection title

Here are the components that I created for my designer board:

Week 3

This week I have been working out all of the details for my collection. I have done some swatching in preparation for my first ensemble which I hope to start this week. I have gathered fabrics such as silks, polyesters, and cotton twills. As of now I have all of my first iterations of flats and illustrations done.

Here are the illustration for all 8 of my designs.

These are the flats for pieces that I hope to create. The main concepts I will be working on are surface design with my embroidery, and fabric manipulation as seen in the pleating.

Week 3 -Fairytale

This week I have finally picked a name and finished up all of my drawings and flats. I very much forgot to take a picture of my board for class but I will be updating it Tuesday anyways, so next week I will have that up here. Next week I would like to have made more progress with the first ensemble and have all my materials purchased.

I have started draping my first ensemble with my fabric, I am super excited already with how it is turning out. I also had some help from my cat Tinker Bell when measuring my fabric.

Week Three - Ophelia

At week three, Ophelia is coming together! I spent hours on these illustrations and I'm feeling really good about the collection. I think It's looking very cohesive and I'm excited to start sewing! The next steps will be to scan in the illustrations, print them at a bigger size, and revise my collection board. I will also begin patternmaking and constructing my first ensemble. (The mock neck top and lace-up flare pants) I already have similar patterns from previous projects that just need to be tweaked a little bit for this ensemble, so I'm hoping that it will go smoothly with the deadline approaching quickly. I will upload better pictures of my board once it is revised and the drawings are scanned in.
