Reese Westmaas- Week 7

I have been finishing my Alexander McQueen inspired dress by hand sewing on the buttons and button straps. I did not think to sew the button straps in between the lining and fabric so I had unfinished ends and button straps on-top of the fabric instead of sewn under. I decided to sew on bead caps over the button straps to hide them. As well, when I tried the dress onto the mannequin it was far too short so I added feathers to the bottom to add some length. I also began my zero waste project and created a mockup of a faux wrap baby doll dress

Inzayne Creations Week 6

 WEEK 6

I finished my zero waste pants this week! Im modeling them in the picture above, they might not be too flattering on me because I made them for someone who is 6'2" and a 3XL, however I still think they look pretty good on me. 

For the patterning of the pants I experimented with very geometric shapes. The only curve I drafted into this pattern is the crotch curve, those shapes I ended up just using for the back pockets with a raw serged finish. To add length to the pants and the shirt I used grommets and very large curved safety pins. I really like the look the safety pins give to these garments. 

The top has adjustable sleeves with inner drawstrings to give it a more interesting silhouette. I only drafted one arm on my muslin because I really enjoy the look of it and felt as if I didn't need to add the other one. My goal with this top is to use some of the extra straps from the pants pattern to add some straps with metal hardware to make both garments feel cohesive with one another.

The image above shows what the pants pattern laid out on the fabric looks like. I also have an image of me putting in the grommets as well as I close up of the serged edges that I used throughout my garments. Both the pants and the top use 36" by 3 yards measurements making the total amount of yardage to be 6 yards.

My goal is to have the top done by Thursday so I can start my next ensemble. 

Grace Anderson - Week 6

 This week, I am finishing my cape and dress ensemble and starting on a zero-waste pattern, as well as the pattern for ensemble two of my capstone collection. I finished laser embossing onto my cape fabric and have begun construction on the cape and dress. I plan to do a dress with pockets for my zero-waste garment that will be made of a woven fabric. 

Reese Westmaas-Week 6

This week I have been constructing my Alexander McQueen inspired dress. I have had a couple issues with the fit of the dress as at first the center front was too long and then it became too short. The dress does not fit the size 8 dress form but it will likely fit the much smaller mannequin it will be displayed on. After constructing the satin tube dress I have added the mesh screening as straps and around the bust. I am beading the straps too and plan to add buttons with button loops on the center front. 

Inzayne Creations Week 5

 WEEK 5

This week was very productive! I finished my innovative dress for the Alexander McQueen exhibit. 

I was able to go into the FlexLab and use a vector file from Adobe Illustrator of my red face drawing. They used the vector file to laser cut out the faces from acrylic sheets. Once they were done getting cut out, I had to push out all the negative spaces and pick away all the protective paper layers revealing my face beads. I then strung them on embroidery floss along with multiple other glass beads, attaching them right under the belt part of the dress in varied lengths and sizes.

For this project I also used leather for the first time ever. I used a fairly cheap "lesser" quality leather and blanket stitched all the raw edges with red embroidery thread. I also installed metal grommets and thick hardware clasps for the straps. I really like how the leather pieces turned out! 

I have to thank my helper, Toe Toe, for helping me cut out all the yards and yards of circle skirts for this dress. I can't wait to install my dress in the GRAM on October the 17th!

Reese Westmaas- Week 5

 I have been working on a muslin mockup up for the Innovative Studies class. This project is inspired by Alexander McQueen and will be displayed at the GRAM during the McQueen exhibition. I want my dress to be a short princess seam tube dress made from non stretch satin. To make the pattern I used a slopper and modified it. For the innovative aspect I will be attaching ruched metal mesh around the bust and beaded straps. 

Grace Anderson - Week 5

 This week, I am starting on my second ensemble for my capstone collection. I am planning on creating an asymmetrical suit jacket with a matching asymmetrical skirt. I hope to start on my pattern this week, as well as purchase the rest of my fabric and notions. I have not made my final decision as to what method I will use to finish the seams or which closures I will use, but hope to have those decisions finalized by the end of the week. I am also working on a cape and dress project that will be used in my capstone collection. I am embossing my emblem into velvet and will make it into a cape.
