I'm Arienne Stoye and I am a senior in the fashion studies program at KCAD
the original idea for my capstone collection was to create a collection inspired by Hamlet's Ophelia, however, I found that my true passion is not necessarily in costume design. I also wanted to work with more knit fabrics than I had originally planned, as knitwear is a medium I enjoy sewing in. While I'm still keeping the name, the new Ophelia will be more focused on power than sorrow and grief. I aim to embody the divine feminine and the complexity/power of womanhood. I have been extremely interested in the idea of mythology and storytelling and I wanted to include themes of religion and mythology in my collection, as I am moved by the stories that they tell and find a lot of meaning in the tales that have been told over time in order to understand the complexity of humanity and existence. While I do not necessarily find myself to be a spiritual person, I am intrigued by spiritual imagery and the power it has over people whether that be good or bad. I am excited to revise my collection and create some new designs that better reflect my artistic vision and sewing abilities. I started out by creating a new mood board for the collection and I am ready to move forward with illustrations.
of course, I am also inspired by music, so I started to create a playlist that embodies the theme of the collection for some added inspiration.

I'll end the post with this passage from Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, which moved me and inspired me to create this new theme
