Week Two - Ophelia

This week, I spent some time sketching, developing a color and fabric story, and finalizing my designs. I decided to add a lot more knitwear to the collection as well as some interesting fabrics and textures. I used some design elements from my old idea, but I edited them quite a bit. I love the idea of gathering and ruching and I still tried to incorporate the dark, romantic, and historical vibe I had going while moving over to a more modern theme. My next step moving forward will be to edit these designs based on the feedback I received in class, search for a few more red fabrics to incorporate, and do my final Illustrations. As of right now, my three words are haunting, poetic, and multidimensional.

Week 2

It's already week two in this collection journey. So far I have been perfecting my vision and picking out words that best fit my collection. Three words that I believe capture the essence of this collection are; minimalistic, textured, and delicate.

Here is the first iteration of design ideas.

This week I have also been working on collecting fabric swatches that fit best with my vision. I am aiming for cream, white, and pink fabrics. I have been looking at twills, chiffon, and a few knit fabrics. Looking forward to bringing these fabrics to life in my designs.

BORISCHI - Week 2

 Week 2- Sorting and Planning

Getting through all of the cut materials was messy but rewarding. I enlisted the help of my grandmother and spent time chatting and bagging materials based on what dress they were for and which component of the gown. It feels so good to have things organized and ready for the next step of the game.

Week One -Benson

Hello! My name is Emma Benson, I am a senior at KCAD and I am super excited to be starting my capstone collection this semester.

My collection is inspired by cottage core, with a whimsical vibe. I want it to come off very breathy and calm. I have been working on some sketches as well as finding fabrics. I can't wait to see how everything turns out. By next week my goal is to have my collection name, as well as color drawings of my final ensembles.

Week 1

Hi! My name is Elizabeth Ojeda, I am a senior at KCAD. I am excited to be presenting my capstone collection.

My collection is inspired by my love for fabric manipulation and surface design. I will be including hand done embroidery, beading, and pleating. For this collection I want to focus on textures and the beauty in simplicity. My goal for this collection is to design clothing that makes women feel confident, and classy in a way that highlights their natural beauty.

Here is the beginning of my mood board and a rough draft of silhouettes that I am aiming for. I hope to convey a feeling of class, simplicity and elegance in my designs. I'm thrilled to be sharing my process with all of you!

Week One - Ophelia

I'm Arienne Stoye and I am a senior in the fashion studies program at KCAD

the original idea for my capstone collection was to create a collection inspired by Hamlet's Ophelia, however, I found that my true passion is not necessarily in costume design. I also wanted to work with more knit fabrics than I had originally planned, as knitwear is a medium I enjoy sewing in.  While I'm still keeping the name, the new Ophelia will be more focused on power than sorrow and grief. I aim to embody the divine feminine and the complexity/power of womanhood. I have been extremely interested in the idea of mythology and storytelling and I wanted to include themes of religion and mythology in my collection, as I am moved by the stories that they tell and find a lot of meaning in the tales that have been told over time in order to understand the complexity of humanity and existence. While I do not necessarily find myself to be a spiritual person, I am intrigued by spiritual imagery and the power it has over people whether that be good or bad. I am excited to revise my collection and create some new designs that better reflect my artistic vision and sewing abilities. I started out by creating a new mood board for the collection and I am ready to move forward with illustrations.

of course, I am also inspired by music, so I started to create a playlist that embodies the theme of the collection for some added inspiration.

I'll end the post with this passage from Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, which moved me and inspired me to create this new theme

BORISCHI - Week 1

Week 1- Materials and Cutting

Something I have loved about fashion is learning about sustainability and material studies. I look for function, consciousness, and self realization in my designs. Because of this my brand "Borischi Bridal" and collection "Something Old Something New" focus on reusing gown fabric to make new off-beat bridal designs. There was little method to the disassembly madness, the les recognizable the garment is post surgery the better for the purpose of the final outlook.
