Since adjusting the patterns to jumpsuit, I have started cutting out the pieces. Though I liked how the prototype came out, it's always exciting to see the design start to come alive with final fabrics.
I haven't started constructing it yet because I am working on embroidering the front of the bodice so it says "A Whole New World." This goes along with the embroidery on the back that is Aladdin and Jasmine flying on the magic carpet. It's also an image from the movies during the song. I'm using white embroidery floss to do the lyrics on the front to make sure they pop from the darker blue fabric.
Stay tuned for a peek at the embroidery of Aladdin and Jasmine!

Let's go look three!
After finishing up look two
I have moved on to working on the third and last graded look of my collection! For this ensemble I am making the Aladdin inspired jumpsuit! This look continues the use of blue pique knit, while also pulling in the wool woven again.
So far I have the prototype complete, and have made adjustments to my patterns. I wanted the pant legs to have more fullness so I added an extra two inches to each leg after evaluating the prototype. The sleeves also ended up being longer than the 3/4 length that I wanted so I adjusted that as well.
I have also started working on the embroidery that will be on the jumpsuit including a magic lamp and Aladdin and Jasmine on the magic carpet.
Stay tuned for more progress!

Two down, one to go!
My second ensemble for my collection is officially done!
Below is a sneak peak of the
"Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" leggings that go with the Little Helpers mice
dress. This look was inspired by Cinderella, and utilizes characters that are
not often seen in Disney merchandise. The mice are a big part of the movie, and
beloved by many fans. However, it's not likely you are going to find any
merchandise with them on it.
The “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo”
leggings accompany the mice dress. These are a simpler piece, but add an extra
touch of Disney magic. I hand painted the text on the side of on leg with
acrylic paint. Then splattered the paint and added some French knots to
create fairy dust.
Stay tuned for progress of the
third ensemble!

One-month mark_
Exactly one month from
today I will be showing my capstone collection! One month!! I am feeling so many emotions
thinking about this day. The most prevalent emotion is excitement. I am excited
to show my final collection as I have put countless hours of physical, mental
and emotional work into each sketch, flat, illustration, presentation board,
pattern, prototype and final garment and so much more! This collection will not
only prove to myself that all my hard work, long nights, early mornings, and mental
breakdowns were worth it, but that I can also overcome anything. The day of the
show will be an emotional one for me, but such a great accomplishment.
This past week our
banners for the show were printed and I am very happy with mine! The banner
includes some inspiration photos for my collection, a collection brief, flats
and illustrations of my garments.

This weekend has been
a busy one and tough because of migraines and stress. Despite this, I am
pushing through and trying to finish my patterns for my third look for class.
This look will include a wide-leg pant, a crop top, and a long jacket. The due
date for this look is April 12th, so check back soon for more sneak
peek photos!
Have a great week,

Little Helpers
After a great trip to Europe and spring break, it was time to get down to business (not to defeat the H
uns). It was time to refocus and get my second look done. This look is my Cinderella look and features the "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" leggings and my "Little Helpers" Mice Dress. I had most the dress mostly constructed before we left, but had the embroidery of mice to do when I got back. The dress features Jaq and Gus Gus carrying a glass slipper as well as a few of the female mice scattered around.
Instead of embroidering these straight onto the dress I created them as a patch/applique first that I then attached to the dress. I also included the flowers with the same application that I used on the shorts to add more color and texture to the look.
Stay tuned for a look at the leggings! I won't be posting a picture of the final garments to leave some surprise for the show!

Back At It_
It has
been a while since my last blog post about my final collection. Last post I was
in Europe on our fashion trip. This trip was an amazing adventure full of
fashion, art and history. I experienced many new things on this trip and hold
all sorts of new inspiration for my future in the fashion industry.
When we
got back from Europe it was time for spring break- although it was not much of
a break for me. I worked all break to both catch up and get ahead.
We are
a week back from spring break and I have finished my jumpsuit for the second
look (which is due Thursday) and am currently working on the jacket that will
go over it. I also worked on a bodysuit for another look, which I am finishing
up.
Along
with my collection and other classes, the planning of the fashion show is
coming together. I am figuring out the music I want my models to walk to and
other show details. I am one of the merchandise coordinators for the show, so I
have been selecting accessories to order, establishing a hair and make up plan
and selecting garments that will be shown on the runway.
I am
back in the swing of things and at a fast pace! I am getting more and more
excited to see my full collection and all my hard work pay off the day of the
show!

2018 KCAD Fashion Trip Day 10 - Disneyland!
Hi again!
Today the Kenzie’s took Disneyland Paris!
For those of you who don’t know, I
LOVE Disney. I grew up watching the movies and going to the parks. I have been
to Walt Disney World in Florida multiple times and Disneyland in California
once. I wear a lot of Disney in my daily wardrobe. My phone case and purses are
my everyday Disney accessory, and if I could wear Mickey ears everyday I would.
For my capstone collection, I have focused on the freedom of Disney, and being
able to embrace your love of Disney characters and your inner child. Though, I
have seen many variations of Disney style through the parks and Pinterest, I
wanted to experience an international Disneyland. This was also Kenzie
Santamour’s first trip to any Disney park, so I had the pleasure of being a bit
of a tour guide and making the trip magical for her.
Disneyland Paris is split up into
two parks, Disneyland Park (which is the Magic Kingdom) and Walt Disney Studios
Park. We started at Walt Disney Studios Park, which is similar to Hollywood
Studios in Walt Disney World. I was very excited to see the little Toy Story
and Ratatouille sections they had there. I love the Toy Story themed areas and
rides because they make everything large, in order to make you the scale of the
toys, making you feel part of that world (oops Little Mermaid reference). The
Toy Story section had a very cute ride called, Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop,
making it as if you were one of the toy army men floating down on a parachute.
Similar to Toy Story, the Ratatouille
ride made you feel what it was like for Remy, a rat, to be running around the
kitchen floor in Gusteau’s restaurant. This movie is set in Paris, so it was
exciting to see them utilize it in the park, as I have not seen much for
Ratatouille in the other Disney parks I’ve been too. It’s interesting to try to
figure out what characters are more popular here than in the U.S. It’s hard to
say if Ratatouille is more popular here because it has an attraction and
merchandise, because it’s French, or because of the characters itself. What I
love about Disney is seeing all the merchandise they come up with for all of
their characters, like the Remy hat and shirts. I thought they were very cute,
and will probably regret not buying them.
We then went to Disneyland Park to
see Main Street, U.S.A. and Sleeping Beauty’s castle. We went on several rides
there including Pirates of the Caribbean, Big Thunder Mountain, Mad Tea Party,
Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain, and “it’s a small world.” We wanted to hit the
thrilling rides, as well as the classics. “It’s a small world” may be very
dated, but it is a classic Walt Disney ride. He debuted this ride at the 1964
New York World Fair. Not all may care for the tune to be stuck in their head
for hours after riding it, but this ride displays Disney history and their
focus on detail. Though the 300+ animatronic children are not detailed to e
lifelike, their costumes are. Most of the costumes are fabrics, and not just
part of a robot. Each one uses the most identifiable elements of a culture’s
fashion to represent them in the ride. There is a focus on how fabrics will
move with the dancing of the character, seen in the Indian dress and hula
skirts. African prints and colors are used to create this cultures garment for
the dolls, and are not seen elsewhere. Each costume is embellished according to
the culture, and is done so with great care.
After going on rides, we ventured
the shops on Main Street U.S.A. where I was able to find some great inspiration
for my capstone. Part of my collection is focused on elevating Disney
merchandise to higher end garments, with more emphasis on fabrics and surface
details. In one store I did find the Disneyland Paris collection. Many unique
fabrics in higher quality fabrics were used to create garments that stood out
from the average Mickey tee. Their was a dress made of velour, which stood out
next to the typical t-shirt and sweatshirt material, and was adorned with
embellishments and patches. This made me feel good about my collection, because
it seems people are looking for things similar to what I am creating, and that my
collection will hopefully appeal to an international customer.
The rides and the park were all
very magical. One of the things I love about Disney is seeing how they change
things from park to park, and all the little details they put into everything
they do. It was certainly a day full of Disney magic!
