Time is flying_

We had our third and final critique yesterday. It has not really sunk in that I have completed everything I need to for class! I have a couple fixes I need to make along with finishing two additional looks. I have a couple models coming today to do a fitting and to establish who I want to wear what. I can’t wait to see my models in my clothes!

Along with creating my own collection, I am one of the merchandise coordinators preparing for the show.  The merchandise coordinators are responsible for choosing and organizing the underclass garments for the show. We have been working on the line up and selecting accessories for the looks. We have had several issues with ordering our accessories; they are selling out of almost everything we initially chose. Despite this, we have managed to finalize all the orders with the help of our financial coordinator Ashley!

Today, we have our second model fitting and workshop. Thankfully our classmates are helping us with these fittings. We have a range of 20-25 models showing up, which we need to fit. We will take photos and print them off to establish who will wear what. It gets a little chaotic, but it is fun at the same time!

The count down has begun: 11 DAYS!
Wish me luck,

Third Ensemble_

Since my last post I have made a lot of progress on my third look. The patterns and prototypes are complete; I have cut them out of my final fabric and started constructing the garments. I have the jacket lining sewn together and the outer shell of the jacket mostly sewn. Now I just need to sew them together and finish the hems to finish up the jacket. The crop top is mostly done, just need to attach the sleeves and finish the hems. The pant is also mostly done, I need to insert the zipper, finish the waist and hem the bottom.

I love the fabrics I chose for my collection; my favorite to work with has been the navy blue spacer mesh. It has a great weight to it and sews fairly easy. The best word that comes to mind when describing the port silk crepe is “creamy”. I love the color of the fabric and the softness of it; but it has been a bit difficult to work with. It is slippery and easy to snag.

Overall, I am making great progress on this look and will finish it by Thursday. Along with this look, I am completing an additional look for the show, which combines multiple fabrics into one dress.

Below are some process photos of my third look.

Jumpsuit Progress!

Since adjusting the patterns to jumpsuit, I have started cutting out the pieces. Though I liked how the prototype came out, it's always exciting to see the design start to come alive with final fabrics.

I haven't started constructing it yet because I am working on embroidering the front of the bodice so it says "A Whole New World." This goes along with the embroidery on the back that is Aladdin and Jasmine flying on the magic carpet. It's also an image from the movies during the song. I'm using white embroidery floss to do the lyrics on the front to make sure they pop from the darker blue fabric.

Stay tuned for a peek at the embroidery of Aladdin and Jasmine!

Let's go look three!

After finishing up look two

I have moved on to working on the third and last graded look of my collection! For this ensemble I am making the Aladdin inspired jumpsuit! This look continues the use of blue pique knit, while also pulling in the wool woven again.

So far I have the prototype complete, and have made adjustments to my patterns. I wanted the pant legs to have more fullness so I added an extra two inches to each leg after evaluating the prototype. The sleeves also ended up being longer than the 3/4 length that I wanted so I adjusted that as well.

I have also started working on the embroidery that will be on the jumpsuit including a magic lamp and Aladdin and Jasmine on the magic carpet.

Stay tuned for more progress!

Two down, one to go!

My second ensemble for my collection is officially done!

Below is a sneak peak of the "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" leggings that go with the Little Helpers mice dress. This look was inspired by Cinderella, and utilizes characters that are not often seen in Disney merchandise. The mice are a big part of the movie, and beloved by many fans. However, it's not likely you are going to find any merchandise with them on it.

The “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo” leggings accompany the mice dress. These are a simpler piece, but add an extra touch of Disney magic. I hand painted the text on the side of on leg with acrylic paint. Then splattered the paint and added some French knots to create fairy dust.

Stay tuned for progress of the third ensemble!

One-month mark_

Exactly one month from today I will be showing my capstone collection! One month!! I am feeling so many emotions thinking about this day. The most prevalent emotion is excitement. I am excited to show my final collection as I have put countless hours of physical, mental and emotional work into each sketch, flat, illustration, presentation board, pattern, prototype and final garment and so much more! This collection will not only prove to myself that all my hard work, long nights, early mornings, and mental breakdowns were worth it, but that I can also overcome anything. The day of the show will be an emotional one for me, but such a great accomplishment.

This past week our banners for the show were printed and I am very happy with mine! The banner includes some inspiration photos for my collection, a collection brief, flats and illustrations of my garments.

This weekend has been a busy one and tough because of migraines and stress. Despite this, I am pushing through and trying to finish my patterns for my third look for class. This look will include a wide-leg pant, a crop top, and a long jacket. The due date for this look is April 12th, so check back soon for more sneak peek photos!

Have a great week,

Little Helpers

After a great trip to Europe and spring break, it was time to get down to business (not to defeat the H
uns). It was time to refocus and get my second look done. This look is my Cinderella look and features the "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" leggings and my "Little Helpers" Mice Dress. I had most the dress mostly constructed before we left, but had the embroidery of mice to do when I got back. The dress features Jaq and Gus Gus carrying a glass slipper as well as a few of the female mice scattered around.

Instead of embroidering these straight onto the dress I created them as a patch/applique first that I then attached to the dress. I also included the flowers with the same application that I used on the shorts to add more color and texture to the look.

Stay tuned for a look at the leggings! I won't be posting a picture of the final garments to leave some surprise for the show!
