Week 2

Working on my three main pieces!

Week #3 Drafting and fabric cutting for capstone

As I begin the week working on my patterns for my first ensemble, my knit skirt and fur vest.  This week, as I will be cutting these out of the fabric today and starting to put this first look for my collection together.

Here is a glimpse of my mood board for my capstone collection. The name for this collection is Divine Delicacy.

I also have been working on my dress for my friends lexi"s wedding this Saturday! As I drafted it, the first pattern paper that you saw in the beginning was how this dress turned out. Fits me perfectly, and i excited to cut it out of the actual fabric.

This is the fabric that i will be working with as i am trilled and feel this would be a fun challenge for me. I have made 2 garments within 2 weeks !

Week 3

Heres my full collection.

Week 2 Ensemble #1 Senior Capstone

Went fabric shopping for my collection. I found some amazing fabrics I would love to work with!

This piece gave me couture vibes, and I would love to incorporate this into my collection somehow. Unfortunately, the last time I went, they didn't have it in stock anymore:(

Figuring out what fabrics went well with what drawing i had displayed. i will be working on 3 ensembles but will be having 7 garments in total for the fashion show!

eclecticism - week three

hi blog! this week i've been editing down my collection based on my fabrics, coming up with accessories, and picking which designs i'm actually going to be constructing! i ended up removing the cheetah print fabric because- believe it or not- i felt like the patterns and colors were too busy. i have a lineup of looks that i'm finally happy with and will soon be illustrating each ensemble larger and starting with construction! i can't wait to actually create my favorite looks from my collection (spoiler alert, i'm aiming for five full looks out of my eight!)

Working Design Board

This week, I put up my design board. This is a work in progress and will be updated as my collection progresses. Very exciting to see it all coming together. I have also started working on the pattern for my first ensemble. I'm still waiting for my first fabric order and some swatches to arrive, but once I receive my swatches, I'll be able to officially finalize my design choices.

Red Pink: Week 3

Hello again! This week, pattern making and draping for the first ensemble continues. I used one of my favorite pattern making techniques, the slash-and-spread, to create fullness in the front skirt.

Here I have marked cut lines. (I also numbered each section in case any separated.)

Then I spread the sections apart and taped them down to achieve about twice the width of the original muslin skirt. I marked a beautifully curved skirt bottom, added hem and seam allowance, and voilà!

This week design boards have gone up as well. I made a few small changes to my illustrations and flats. Everything looks great all together. Enjoy!

week 3

Week 3

This week I made my ensemble 1 patterns! I sewed the mock ups and started making adjustments to the pattern.

In class, I put together my working design board. This board will be used throughout the semester and will be worked on and changed.

And I started redoing my illustrations.

Nicole: Week Three

 Greetings!

This past week I worked on solidifying my sketches on photoshop and finished doing all the flats for the eight ensembles. I put my board together in the lab so I can see it as I move through the process of making my designs come to life. I also started drafting my dress and fur bolero which is going to be the first look I make. I have all 6 of my fabrics picked out and 3 of them are on their way to me, I’m looking forward to seeing them all come together in person!

Hope everyone has a great rest of their week/weekend and I look forward to continuing to share this journey!

VIER: Week 3

 Figure 1.

This week, I redid the illustrations for my Capstone Collections. Before I had drawn my illustrations by hand in very stiff poses (see image on left), but I had decided to digitally redraw them in a more posed manner (see image on right) and I am very happy with how they turned out.

Having finally been able to have access to an IPad and Procreate, I am so happy that I redid these illustrations. I think they have a much cleaner look and give my collection vision a more elevated look.

Today we also put up our design boards in class and I am very happy with how this turned out. I still need to get my real swatches, but for the meantime I have some digital ones up. Hope you guys like this!

week 2

 Week 2

This week, I started drifting my patterns for one of my body suits and pants. My plan is to use knit fabrics for my body suit and woven for the pants. I am thinking of using a corduroy and I am still deciding what kind of knit I want to use for the body suit.

Nicole Week Two

Hello!

This week I worked on figuring out what fabrics I am going to use for my collection, reworking some of them as the fabric wouldn't work for the design that I originally had picked.  I also solidified which three ensembles of the eight I am going to physically create for this class. I want the three looks alone to be cohesive, even without seeing the poster or the other five looks.

Below I attached the original sketches for the collection with some of the fabrics I was originally thinking of, and the mood board to give a better idea of where I want to go creatively with this Eccentric Nostalgia Collection.

Until next week!

CYRK: Transience in Bloom - Week 2

This week, I solidified the three ensembles from my collection that I will be creating.
Chosen three ensembles with edit notes

I had a difficult time this week editing my designs to make this small portion of my overall collection work together cohesively. While the colors for my chosen three were already working harmoniously, I really struggled getting the fabrics to work. Ultimately, I changed many design elements in the middle design and swapped the fabric for a component of the top featured in the all-black look.
Final three ensembles - Option 1

Final three ensembles - Option 2

I now have two options for the middle design and am trying to decide which one I like better. Once my ordered fabric and a few swatches arrive in the mail, I believe I will have a much easier time making my final decision.
Collection prior to edits

While the three ensembles were now complementing each other, this necessitated changes to the rest of my collection. Thankfully, these changes were minor in comparison to the ensembles within the smaller grouping.

Red Pink: Week 2

Patternmaking for the first look is underway!

I started with a basic princess seam block, and taped out style lines. Then I realized I wasn't quite getting the result I was aiming for.

However, work was not wasted. I still cut along the style lines and used the pieces as a guide. I slashed and spread the muslin where I wanted gathers at the bust, and used that to cut a large enough piece of featherwale corduroy to drape the side front.

Draping helped me to place the bust pleats correctly and refine the fit around the bust and waist.

I shaped and pinned the side front of the dress, and marked the bust pleat placement, neckline, armhole and the curved shape of the style line.

Then I sewed a bit more fabric to the center front muslin piece, pinned it along the center front of the form, smoothed it over the bust and waist, and traced the curved style line from the side front onto the center front muslin piece. Next, these markings will be transferred to pattern paper for use in cutting the mockup. The back pattern will be created using the same techniques.
