Red Pink: Week 2

Patternmaking for the first look is underway!

I started with a basic princess seam block, and taped out style lines. Then I realized I wasn't quite getting the result I was aiming for.

However, work was not wasted. I still cut along the style lines and used the pieces as a guide. I slashed and spread the muslin where I wanted gathers at the bust, and used that to cut a large enough piece of featherwale corduroy to drape the side front.

Draping helped me to place the bust pleats correctly and refine the fit around the bust and waist.

I shaped and pinned the side front of the dress, and marked the bust pleat placement, neckline, armhole and the curved shape of the style line.

Then I sewed a bit more fabric to the center front muslin piece, pinned it along the center front of the form, smoothed it over the bust and waist, and traced the curved style line from the side front onto the center front muslin piece. Next, these markings will be transferred to pattern paper for use in cutting the mockup. The back pattern will be created using the same techniques.
