Hi everyone!
Today was my first time exploring another country and it was
exciting! We have made it here to London and we were out and about all day
long.
We started the day by landing around 6:30am in London. Flying
alone was new to me also because this actually was my first time flying. What’s
better than jumping right in and making your first flight a connection from Grand
Rapids to Detroit and Detroit to London! It actually wasn’t that bad and we
arrived early to our destination. From the airport, we found our way to the
underground tube system and that took about 45 minutes until we reached our
stop near our hotel.
Today we wanted to get out and explore despite the rainy,
windy cold weather. We decided to do a hop on and hop off bus! This bus allowed
us to see mostly all of the main attractions found in London. We may have been
wet and cold on top of that bus, but we got some great photos! Some of the big
pieces we saw from the bus included Trafalgar Square, Tower Bridge, Big Ben (sadly
under construction), and St. Paul’s Cathedral. This was fun and a great way to
see around the city for the first day!
Around 4:00 pm, we boarded the London Eye. This is a large Ferris
wheel located along the river. This was a bit nerve racking considering the
height that it reaches but the views from the top are pretty neat! After the
London Eye, we sort of walked around and explored. We visited Trafalgar Square
and got some photos in front of the water fountain. It was dark by then so we walked around and
looked at all the lights and entertainment that was happening.
That was day 1 for you! We had a busy day and we all are
pretty exhausted! It is good though because we are getting an experience of a
lifetime! London is beyond beautiful and I love old architecture, so this city
is perfect. We are excited to explore more of London tomorrow. Look out for my
next post tomorrow, where you will be hearing about our experience of shopping at
Bond Street market and watching Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theater!
