After some highly nutritious breakfast fuel (chocolate and strawberry pancakes) our crew started off by hoofing it all the way to the top of Saint Paul's Cathedral, the 1,400 year old cathedral with 528 steps to the top. I repeat - FIVE HUNDRED AND TWENTY EIGHT STEPS. We were panting and dying and I think I saw the ghosts of people who didn't make it to the top. However, it's entirely worth it, and is definitely one of my favorite things to see in London. The architecture is honestly baffling, and I cannot fathom how anyone could think to create something this beautiful, let alone actually build it without advanced technology. The only bummer is that they don't allow you to take photos of the inside, which is stunning. So you'll just have to make do with these photos of us outside and the view from the golden gallery!
After Saint Paul's Cathedral we made our way across the bridge to the Tate Modern Museum. I have a soft-spot for modern and contemporary art, and the Tate is a free-to-the-public gem full of just that. Naturally, my love of all things challenging, shocking, sarcastic, ironic and dry make my favorites things like Dali's Lobster Telephone, and Duchamp's Fountain. Don't like Warhol though.... he was sort of a jerk... but I'll give you a picture of his stuff anyway since he's a crowd favorite.
Lobster Telephone, Salvador Dali
Marilyn Diptych, Andy Warhol
Do women have to be naked to get into the Met. Museum?, Guerrilla Girls
Who Owns What?, Barbara Kruger
Fountain, Marcel Duchamp
Run from Fear, Fun from Rear, Bruce Nauman
Post-Tate we walked back across the river and it was actually sunny! Surprise! London does have colors besides grey....
We found the picture perfect telephone booth outside of Saint Paul's and were obviously forced to have a photoshoot.
We then got ready for the main event:
The Zandra Rhodes fashion show!
We went to the London Fashion Week Festival hub on Strand Street and pretended like we *were somebody*. The first portion was set up like a fashion mart and we went from booth to booth as our wallets sobbed quietly. I splurged on the best sweater/pant set ever that will undoubtedly be featured on Instagram in the very near future. We then went into the Luxe Lounge where we got two GREAT swag-bags designed by Markus Lupfer, hors d'oeuvres and bubbly. We were then two feet away from Zandra herself as she spoke about being involved in the fashion industry for fifty years, her journey, what pushes her to keep going, and aging gracefully (i.e. being so busy that you don't notice you're aging). She was so witty and inspiring. We then got to meet Zandra and the CEO of the British Fashion Council, Carolina Rush, for a quick moment! Our blessings of tickets got us front row seats to her fashion show which was fabulous. Here come lots of pictures:
And now I realized I only took one photo of the show and a hundred videos. Let me know if you'd like to see the videos... they're really good but take forever to upload on this nice UK WiFi. I have to go soak my feet in ice water now, goodbye.
