One down, only 2+ to go!
Our first ensemble of our
collection was due today. I am very happy with the turnout of my garment. My
first look is The Little Mermaid look, which consists of the Ariel Jacket,
"Part of Your World" Tank Top, and the "Under the Sea"
Shorts. Some type of embroidery or applique was used on each garment.
The jacket includes a large
embroidery of Ariel that was then appliqued with a blanket stitch on the back
of the jacket. On the front I kept the details smaller on the wearer's left
breast. I made a patch of a seashell, that is the seashell on Ursula's necklace
that she uses to trap Ariel's voice. I found buttons at hobby lobby of Ariel,
Flounder, and Sebastian. I attached these next to the seashell patch. I was
really drawn to them because they look more like pins rather than buttons. Pins
and patches have been very common in fashion trends currently, and are very
commonly use in Disney style.
I wanted to keep the tank top
to simpler to balance out the jacket and shorts. It's a simpler silhouette with
a high neckline and small collar. The only addition to it was embroidering the
words, "Part of Your World" on to the front. I used black crochet
thread to backstitch the outline of the letters.
On the shorts, I cut out flowers
from a spacer mesh that I used on the under pocket, and in the Snow White look.
I used the blanket stitch to applique the flowers onto the leg panels. I also
added a patch of Flounder from Danielle Nicole to add a fun surprise, and to
embody the "Under the Sea scene in the movie.
Below are pictures of these
details, to see the full-completed look attend the capstone fashion show on
April 25th at the DeVos place! Stay tuned for more details about the show and
my collection!
