Week 4: 02/02/23
Hey there!
This past week I made great progress towards completing my first full ensemble.
The cool matcha colored duster I designed for look #7 is almost complete, just in need of some sleeves. I am holding off on making the sleeves, so I have enough yardage for a top (to be made from the same fabric) which is part of the current look #7. I cut out the top for look #7 and I used brown stretch twill as the final fabric, the construction of this top went smoothly, and I am very happy with the results.
As for the current look #6, I patterned the sleeve, cut out entire outfit in muslin, sewed a toile, and prepared all of the pieces for the bubble sleeve top in final fabric. I am using silk in the color teal and organza in the color burnt umber. Construction methods for the top of look #6 will include: 4 elastic strips sewn strategically onto the inside of the sleeves to give them the desired silhouette. The main body of the top will be self-lined for opacity and structure, the back panels may be cut and replaced with 1”-2” cased elastic, or I may keep the panels as they are and extend the midriff yoke so the top can be tied around the torso. The tunic pants are cut out but after sewing them together and trying them on myself and one of my models, I realized using a woven pattern was not going to give the right results. I re-read chapters; 3, 5, and 9 in my pattern grading book to figure out the procedure for grading patterns with stretch.
