This week I worked on patterning the second look of my collection as well as sewing a mock up of the wide leg side split pants. The pattern for the pants is one I drafted myself for a knitwear capsule collection. The steps to make the final pattern included; converting the origional shapes from knit to a woven pattern, making a mock up of the pattern in size 8 to check the fit, then grading the pattern from size 8 to size 12 and finally size 12 to size 18. I used the relative grading method to size up this pattern but did so in two rounds of sizes to avoid grading more than 5 sizes which would skew the shapes. This method was much quicker and more accurate than using the trial and error method of home sewing techniques. My models do not live close to me so grading based on measurements allowed me to have a larger pattern in less time that more likely to fit my models.
