Red Pink: Week 4

This week the first look is really starting to take shape! The side front, pleated drape was used to draft the side front pattern.

And the entire back of the dress was also draped and patterned. Using a featherwale corduroy sample fabric, I pinched out, pinned, and marked a fisheye dart for waste shaping. The edges of the dart became the style line for the side and center panels of the dress back, finishing in a curve toward the center back.

I tried laying a separate muslin piece over the side back drape and copying the style lines like I did for the front, but something just seemed off.

And when I compared the style line on the corduroy with the style line copied onto the separate muslin piece they just weren't matching up. So I cut the style line on the corduroy to pattern both the side back and center back.

I layered the corduroy piece over the muslin with center backs and tops aligned to get the correct skirt length. And you can really see in the picture below how different the curved style lines were from each other on each piece.

It all came together in the end though! I'm really pleased with the fit around the waist, bust and hips. And the resulting skirt shape and fullness was exactly what I was aiming for. The next step is meeting with my model for a test fit and adjustments, which will then be applied to the pattern. I can't wait to see this look in the final fabric!
