Red Pink: Week 5

This was another productive week. I met with my model for the first ensemble, and it fit her quite well. It was reassuring try the sample on a real body and see that it was fitting the way I wanted it to…for the most part. The bust, waist, hips and hem were all in the right places. It just needed to be let out at the side seams, and the armholes needed to be lowered. So I spent this week redrafting those parts of my pattern.

I also worked on snap placement for the front of the dress while I wait for my 17mm ring snaps and dies to come in. Luckily I have a hole punch that punches out a 17mm circle, so I punched a few out in black construction paper to audition snap spacing and placement on the front pattern piece. Then I made a template of the spacing that I liked best, and used it to mark the pattern.

I still have yet to draft pattern pieces for the neckline and armhole facings, and I will also need to draft a separate pattern piece for the front and back interfacing. The next step is cutting the dress out of my final fabrics. I meet with my model again on Monday for another fitting to make any final adjustments. I can’t wait to see the finished look!
