Week 3 - FLO

 Hello!

This week I worked on patterning the second look of my collection as well as sewing a mock up of the wide leg side split pants.  The pattern for the pants is one I drafted myself for a knitwear capsule collection.  The steps to make the final pattern included; converting the origional shapes from knit to a woven pattern, making a mock up of the pattern in size 8 to check the fit, then grading the pattern from size 8 to size 12 and finally size 12 to size 18.  I used the relative grading method to size up this pattern but did so in two rounds of sizes to avoid grading more than 5 sizes which would skew the shapes.  This method was much quicker and more accurate than using the trial and error method of home sewing techniques.  My models do not live close to me so grading based on measurements allowed me to have a larger pattern in less time that more likely to fit my models.

Week 3!

This week I sewed a mock up for look one in my collection.

After I was satisfied with the fit, I updated my patterns and drafted the lining.

I updated all of my boards and presented them to my classmates.

After talking to the class, I decided to change the lining color of my vest for look five to blue instead of red (like it was in last weeks post). And lastly, I worked on the matching shorts for look five.

WEEK 3

 Welcome back,

This week was comprised of creating my toile prototype for ensemble 1, building a color palette, gathering materials, and playing around with some embellishments.

After fitting the toile to my model, some minor adjustments needed to be made. Taking the waist in slightly and altering the neckline and straps.

Here is my color palette that I swatched from my concept collage. Deep, yet soft tones with a natural, dusty expression.
Shown here are my gathered materials and notions so far. I am happy with how they all look together and I am excited to bring them to life.

I decided to start playing around with embellishments and begin to explore different options for application. Here I am comparing different shapes and sizes of crystals.

Until next time,

Salina

Week 3

This week I finalized my six looks for my collection and finished my digital illustrations.  I also found most of my models, so I am feeling pretty good about how things are progressing!

I have spent my time in the lab this week getting my toile ready for our first due date coming up on Tuesday.  The first look I am working on is the pink princess line dress.  My model fitting for this look is Monday so that I can get everything properly measured and finished up before starting in final fabric.  I gathered 6 yards of soft net for the skirt which is actually my final fabric.  I plan on adding a second layer of net and a nude or white lining underneath for the final.

Week 2!

This week, I have been working on patterning my
first set: matching white linen pants and jacket with diagonal stripes!
I have attached pictures of me drawing and cutting pattern pieces
from a sloper that I have & have the pants ready for fitting and a final make. I found my final fabric for these garments at Field's Fabrics and also picked up some of the remaining fabrics that I'll need for my collection. I've added to my digital illustrations and am preparing my working board as well.

Week 2

This week I have been working on digitizing my illustrations and fabric shopping.  I started at fields for my fabrics but I was having a difficult time finding the colors and fabrics I wanted.  I am planning to look in at Joanns and maybe online at Mood.

I am working on getting my styling board ready to go for my design board that will be posted in the fashion lab.

I have also started patterning and getting the prep work done so I can hit the ground running next week!

Week 2

Hi all, it's week two working in the Changing In Time collection! Since last week I've revised my designs and started creating a sample for the first ensemble. I took my original design and broke it down to its simplest form to build from and construct the prototype. Below you'll find a line up of the new designs, the original first ensemble and the sample illustration. Lastly are photos of the first sample piece in the making. After discussing with my fashion classmates and Instructor, moving forward I will need to add length to the dress to incorporate the braided trim. Let's see how the rest of this goes. Excited to show you all results next week!

WEEK 2

Welcome, welcome,

This week I took the time to reinvent my collection into something that truly shapes who I am.  As a person and as a designer, it is my goal to share the light of Jesus Christ to the world. This collection is my representation of an encapsulation of the light, glory, and beauty of Christ. The Light of the World.

"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" John 8:12

Here is my concept collage. I took inspiration from an array of different things. Because Jesus entered humanity as a Jew and the Bible was first written in Hebrew, I knew that I wanted to incorporate scriptures from the Hebrew Bible into my designs. Furthermore, when pondering the light and glory of Jesus, I thought of beautiful crystal chandeliers and how the crystals magnify the light. Like big, golden clouds with rays of light casting through. Reaching out, like Jesus reaches out to us with love. I incorporated imagery of leaded window panes, a simplified version of the ornate windows found in old churches and temples. I also added imagery of doves as they are a symbol of the Holy Spirit.

For my garments, I am creating long, simple silhouettes with a high focus on fabric ornamentation. Hand painting, hand beading, and surface embellishments.

Here is my styling inspiration for my collection. Crystal head coverings, dove feather cuffs, natural  makeup with hints of crystal accents and bright liner.

Until next time,

Week 2 - FLO

Hi all!

This week I focused on patterning and sewing toiles of two different top styles for my collection.  The first top is symmetric with under bust gathering, curved center front hem, and elasticated, shirred back panels.  The second takes inspiration form the first top design and plays with the placement of shirring, fullness, and hem shape.  In this post, I have included images of these garments, I was really surprised when I looked back at the process, even the simplest changes made all the difference and accomplished my design goals for the second style.  I wanted to create something asymmetric, and high fashion without straying from the mood and function I had marketed to my target audience.  What I came up with felt like a good balance between wearability and “one-of-a-kind”.  I also created the first draft of my lineup.

Week 2! - Zoe Ann-Marie Roberts

Smell the Roses collection -

This week I worked on refining my mood board, as well as creating a hair and makeup board for the show.
I patterned look number five (which consists of a vest and shorts) and cut out all my pattern pieces in blue velvet. The lining to the vest, as shown in the photo, is red silk. The vest is currently in the process of being sewn (I’m about halfway there!).

Next, I began patterning look number one, which is a princess seam dress. After draping the dress on my form, I moved on to patterning. After the patterns for look one were complete, I moved on to cutting out the pieces out of extra fabrics from previous projects to make a mock-up.
